Purpose and scope
AGL Construction Services Ltd wants everyone who works with us to be treated fairly and with respect, whatever their background. We value the different skills and experience people bring.
This policy applies to everyone who works for us, to job applicants and to the specialist trades we bring in. It covers how we treat each other, our clients, residents and the public, on site, in people's homes and in the office.
The law and our commitment
The Equality Act 2010 protects people from discrimination because of nine protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.
We will not discriminate against anyone because of any of them, directly or indirectly, and we will not tolerate harassment or victimisation.
Recruitment, pay and progression
- We recruit and promote on merit: skills, experience and the ability to do the job.
- We welcome applications from everyone.
- Pay is based on the role, skills and experience, and people doing equal work get equal pay.
- Everyone has a fair chance of training and development.
Harassment and bullying
We do not tolerate harassment, bullying or abusive behaviour, on our sites, in people's homes or anywhere else we work. That includes so-called banter aimed at who someone is, and sexual harassment, which we take steps to prevent.
Every complaint is taken seriously and handled fairly. Employees who harass or bully others face disciplinary action, which can include dismissal. Specialists who do so are removed from our sites.
Reasonable adjustments
We make reasonable adjustments for disabled employees and job applicants, such as changes to duties, hours, equipment or the interview process. Tell your site manager or a director what would help, and we will talk it through with you in confidence.
Residents, clients and the public
Much of our work is in people's homes. Everyone who works for us must treat residents, clients and the public with courtesy and respect. Where a landlord tells us that a household needs extra support, for example because of disability or age, we plan the works around them.
Raising a concern
If you experience or see discrimination, harassment or bullying, raise it with your site manager or a director, or email info@aglcs.co.uk. If it involves your site manager, go straight to a director. Residents, clients and members of the public can complain to the site manager, or to the office on 020 8591 7196.
We will listen, look into it fairly and keep you informed. No one will be treated unfairly for raising a concern in good faith.
Responsibilities and review
The directors of AGL Construction Services Ltd own this policy and make sure it is followed. Site managers set the standard on site and deal with problems quickly, and everyone is responsible for their own behaviour. The directors review this policy every year, and sooner if the law changes.
