Modern slavery statement

About this statement

Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires businesses with a turnover of £36 million or more to publish a slavery and human trafficking statement each financial year. AGL Construction Services Ltd's turnover is below that threshold, so we are not required to publish one. We publish this statement voluntarily, because our clients and our people should know where we stand.

Modern slavery includes forced labour, debt bondage and human trafficking. We will not tolerate it in our business or our supply chain.

Our business and supply chain

AGL Construction Services Ltd, company number 09622763, is a principal contractor based at 429 Oakleigh Road North, London N20 0RU. We have been in business for over a decade, working for councils, housing associations, businesses and homeowners across Greater London.

• Most of our work is done by our own directly employed tradespeople and site managers, recruited locally from Barnet and North London.
• Specialist trades are brought in only when a project needs them.
• Materials come from builders' merchants and suppliers.

Across construction, the main risks lie in labour supplied through agencies and subcontractors, and in materials made overseas.

The checks we make

• We check the right to work in the UK of everyone we employ, before they start.
• Specialists are vetted before they work on our sites, and supervised there by our own site managers.
• We verify every subcontractor's status with HMRC under the Construction Industry Scheme.
• Everyone is inducted before starting on site, so we know who is on our sites.

Pay and fair treatment

We pay competitively and on time. Everyone we employ gets at least the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage, whichever applies.

No one is ever asked to pay for a job, or to hand over their passport or identity documents for us to keep. We expect the specialists and suppliers we work with to treat their own workers the same way.

Spotting the signs

We ask our site managers to look out for signs of exploitation, such as a worker who seems controlled by someone else, is not paid directly, has no proper equipment, or does not hold their own identity documents. Anything of concern is reported to a director.

If you are worried that someone is being exploited, tell your site manager or a director, or email info@aglcs.co.uk. We will act on every concern and involve the police or other authorities where needed.
